Sir Ian Botham and his wife Kathy visit Bruichladdich


The legendary English cricketing all-rounder Sir Ian Botham and his wife Kathy visited Bruichladdich today for a tour and tasting with distillery manager Allan Logan.

Ian became acquainted with The Laddie while fishing with his friend Jock Miller who is a former shareholder, and has a particular liking for the Laddie 22 while both Ian and Kathy really enjoy The Botanist Islay dry gin.

Sir Ian is a knowledgeable whisky enthusiast with quite a collection.  Allan drew some samples from a number of casks for him to try including two 21 year old beauties from 1992 which are being aced in Y’Quem and La Tour casks.

We later  introduced Sir Ian to the delights of Black Art 4, and he took a  couple of bottles away with him to enjoy with friends  on an impending Scottish salmon fishing trip this weekend.

The best salmon fishing requires plenty of water in the rivers, and he was eagerly receiving reports of rapidly rising rivers.  Heavy rain is falling over much of the country.  Tight lines beckon…
