Bruichladdich was once again the main sponsor of a small and exclusive annual beach rugby tournament held during the second weekend of June. This is one of rugby’s most eagerly sought after invitation events of the year.
Islay Beach Rugby 2014 was hard fought, full contact, bare footed and physically demanding. Matches are played on Kilnaughton Bay’s beach, conveniently located in front of the White Hart Hotel in the picturesque village of Port Ellen. A natural banking provides an excellent view for spectators – and this year’s event was once again attended by a huge crowd who were able to soak up the traditional sunshine.
Convivial and relaxed, it is considered by many to be Scotland’s most enjoyable rugby event.
The Laddie Cup Final 2014 was contested by Kilchoman vs Oban with Kilchoman runnng out winners 7-2.
The Lassie’s Cup was awarded to Watsonians at the semi final stage. The ladies decided to not play any further games in tribute to the Watsonians coach who had sadly passed away earlier that day.
The Plate (which is contested by the second placed teams) was won by Trinity.
Bowl (3rd placed teams from group stages) was won by Cartha, beating Ardbeg in the final.
Looking forward to next year…
