Pens hand made from a Bruichladdich cask staves

We Laddies love people who make things as well as the things they make.  Rory Cowan from Kildonan on the Isle of Arran has been hand-turning ball-point pens for us using staves from old Bruichladdich casks.  We even have a few available from the Laddieshop.

These are Rory’s instructions should anyone wish to try this at home…  “How to make stave pens.”

Take a piece of wood
Cut in two, Drill a hole in each
Line the holes with brass
Thread the bits of wood on a steel bar and
Put the bar in the lathe, Spin the lathe up
peel off all the bits that don’t look like a pen
sand and add a bit of polish
Remove from the lathe
Add more pen-like bits at the ends
That’s it…

We hope to be featuring various hand-made craft items in the Laddieshop in the future.  They will always be limited availability – but finding out what we have is an excellent excuse to ring up Mary for a chat.

Call us on 01496 850190 The pens cost  £21.50
