It’s been a while since our last Micro-Provenance live tasting direct from the distillery. But we are happy to say we’re ready for another!
On September 13th, we’ll be tasting through three heavily peated single cask whiskies. They are all Port Charlotte spirit, distilled from Islay grown barley.
|2011 Port Charlotte||#1860||61.4%||WRHS 14-12B||1st fill Bourbon cask|
|2008 Port Charlotte||#3403||61.4%||WRHS 13-16A||1st fill Bourbon cask|
|2008 Port Charlotte||#3582||62.6%||WRHS 6-L17||2nd fill Rivesaltes cask|
As part of our #weareislay campaign, we’d like to ignite some discussion around the labelling of Islay whisky – whether it has become badge when it should be about provenance.
We’ll pose questions and give you our take on matters. Does the way we interpret and commit to making an “Islay” dram make a difference? Why are we going to such ridiculous lengths, defying the weather and wildlife to take a crop off the land here, employing four times the average number of people to make a product that’s labelled the same, shouldering great expense to bottle here on the island, building new warehouses almost as fast as we can fill them?
Does it make a difference to you?

How does the live tasting work?
We will sit down at Bruichladdich Distillery with our head distiller Adam Hannett. He’ll taste through the three single cask whiskies while we broadcast via our LaddieLive stream.
In real time, our team will field questions and comments through Twitter – double screening here we come! Make sure to mention @bruichladdich and use hashtags #MP8 and #weareislay.
We have a very limited number of sample size bottles of the selected casks on sale here [link to product page] for people to drink along at home. But drinking the exact drams is not vital – our new Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2012 is available here which shares the general story. For contrast and context we also offer the Port Charlotte 10 made with 100% Scottish barley.
For now, buy a kit before they sell out and save the date in your diary. We’ll be live from 7pm BST on September 13th !
Please note that these samples are intended for consumption, and not for re-sale. Some of the labels may have bubbled in transit and will not be of ‘collection or auction quality’. We hope that in the spirit of our live tastings, you’ll join us by opening your kit and tasting the contents simultaneously wherever you are in the world, as was our objective when we created the MP series for our wider community.
