Organically grown Barley
Dalcross: Mid Coul Farm
Mid Coul farm, located close to Inverness in the north of Scotland, grew and harvested our first crop of Organic barley back in 2003. A progressive 2,755-acre estate, Mid Coul has a closed-loop fertility system that generates electricity using an anaerobic digester while allowing almost all waste material to be recycled as fertiliser.
Without agrochemicals, and with careful rotation and soil care, the barley captures its environment. It’s shaped by terroir in the truest sense.
Each batch is fully traceable from field to bottle. And every step of the production is certified organic, including annual audits by the Biodynamic Association.
With no artificial input, the barley grown for The Organic 16 is the purest expression of its terroir. Distilled slowly on our tall, narrow-necked stills, this unpeated whisky is aged entirely on Islay in ex-bourbon casks for 16 years. The result is a vibrant, barley-led spirit, cereal-forward, fruit-rich, and unmistakably clean.
Maturation & Method
Bruichladdich Organic Barley 16 Aged Years has matured exclusively in first-fill American oak. The result is a whisky that reflects both spirit and cask, but lets the character of the organic barley come to the fore.

Our Bruichladdich whisky range is unpeated, floral and complex. Trickle distilled from 100% Scottish barley using much of the original Victorian machinery, the methods employed by our craftsmen have continued unchanged. This is natural whisky, non-chill filtered and colouring free.
