PROGRESSIVE HEBRIDEAN DISTILLERS
WHO WE ARE AND HOW IT GUIDES EVERY DECISION WE MAKE
WE BELIEVE OUR SPIRITS SHOULD HAVE CHARACTER
There are many attributes we share with our distant Gaelic forefathers: stubborn, resolute, self-sufficient, hard-working, enduring, straight-talking, passionate and philosophical. Albeit with a certain roguish quality.
We are proudly nonconformist, as has always been the way in these Western Isles. Oirthir Gaidheal, the Coast of the Gaels, the 'land of the outsider'.
We passionately believe in terroir - in authenticity, place and provenance, and ultimate traceability.
We seek to produce the most natural, thought-provoking and enjoyable spirits possible.
But if all you want is generic spirit, the world is awash with the stuff.
We are Progressive Hebridean Distillers.
This isn't just a form of words. It is who we are, where we come from and what we believe in.
A STATE OF MIND
At Bruichladdich Distllery, we respect the past but don't live in its shadow.
We believe in innovation and progress, while striving to create intriguing spirits - spirits with remarkable integrity and provenance.
We believe in moving forward, asking questions and challenging convention. We continue to rebel against the traditional world of Scotch whisky.
We pinoneer the foraging movement in gin. We're not afraid to push the boundaries and go against the status quo.
A SENSE OF PLACE
We believe that any artisanal, living product should evoke a sense of place. That is why we distil, mature and bottle only on Islay.
Keeping as much of our process here is not just about protecting our whisky's signature salt-citrus tang which comes from Islay maturation, but reflects our commitment to our island community.
'Hebridean' refers to Islay's geographical position as the southmost island in the inner Hebrides, but we are much more than a grid reference on a map.
Our island home is inherent to our people and our values, and shapes who we are and the decisions we make.
A MARRIAGE OF ART AND SCIENCE
When it comes to distilling, we see this not as an industrial practice but rather an ancient art - an art that has intrigued the human spirit for centuries.
A mysterious and enigmatic alchemy that explores the very depths of the distiller’s soul.
We make our whisky the same way as our predecesors - by hand, taste, nose and eye.
It is this manual control of the entire process and the ultimate knowledge of every pipe, valve and detail that gives us the authority to not only distil three different styles of single malt, but also the first Islay dry gin.
It is in our commitment to protect our core values of authenticity, provenance and transparency that we have earned the right to call ourselves Progressive Hebridean Distillers.
