The Laddie Twelve story begins, as all our whiskies do, with the barley. We use 100% Scottish barley,more than half coming from our farming partners right here on Islay. This commitment to provenance means we can trace our spirit from farm to bottle. Being unpeated, the truebarleycharacterand complex influence of the casks take centre stage.
Every drop of The Laddie Twelve has been distilled, patiently, in our Victorian-era stills. Matured exclusively on Islay, by the shores of Lochindaal, influenced by the Atlantic air, this Laddie Twelve is high provenance Islay.
The Laddie Twelve is created using a variety of specially selected casks:
- First-fill Bourbon Barrels (46%): The backbone, lending those classic sweet, vanilla notes.
- Sherry Butts (27%): A carefully managed combination of first, second, and third-fill casks, bringing layers of rich fruit and spice.
- Second-fill Sherry Hogsheads (5%): Adding further nuanced sherry character.
- Second-fill French Oak ex-Red Wine Casks (22%): Contributing a sophisticated, rich complexity.
This isn’t a formula dictated by a spreadsheet. It’s about understanding how these different woods interact with our spirit over time, creating a whisky of depth and character.
The Laddie Twelve is part of our pursuit to reconnect whisky with its raw ingredients and origins. From barley to bottle, it reflects a distilling philosophy grounding in place and process.
Every parcel of barley is traceable to Scottish farms, including Islay-grown barley from our long-standing farming partners. Our whisky is non-chill filtered and free from artificial colour, matured and bottles on Islay.
This is whisky with provenance - not as a slogan, but as practice.

Despite the small number of raw ingredients in Scotch whisky, only a handful of producers will share their origins. Being transparent about what’s in your glass is still a surprisingly radical approach, but you have the right to know what’s in your bottle. We argue that flavour is derived from the whisky making process and ALL of the ingredients. The age of the spirit and the type of casks used are not the only signifiers of quality. A whisky like this should be considered in its entirety.

Our Bruichladdich whisky range is unpeated, floral and complex. Trickle distilled from 100% Scottish barley using much of the original Victorian machinery, the methods employed by our craftsmen have continued unchanged. This is natural whisky, non-chill filtered and colouring free.
