The Bruichladdich workforce in 1994

This rather poignant photograph shows Bruichladdich staff in 1994. It is evidently a beautiful day and they are squinting into the bright morning sun that is shining into their faces from across Loch Indaal.

The photo was taken prior to the distillery being closed following the takeover of our (then) parent company Invergordon by Whyte and Mackay, so the men would probably have had no idea that most of them were to lose their jobs in the near future. Only John and Budgie were retained in a sort of caretaker role following the closure. See names below...

The last spirit was distilled in December of that year, although there was another short production run in 1998 employing staff from Jura Distillery. which was also owned by Whyte and Mackay. Whisky from this last short run was bottled as one of a pair and named the 'Ancien Regime' for Feis Ile in 2011.
The distillery was to remain closed until its purchase by the private consortium led by Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin in 2000, with production re-starting on 29th May 2001.
