What a week this has been. The Feis seems to have been busier than ever with a constant stream of Laddiefans coming into the distillery for tours, cask visits or just to say hello. The Laddieshop has become quite a social centre but today has been even busier than usual because we have had live music courtesy of Cellos Galore. The quartet was co-founded by Liza Wilson and Sandy Baillie who are Scots now living and working in Germany. They were joined by Maria O’Connor from Ireland and fellow Scot Laura Sergeant. It is a privilege to be able to experience musical performances of this quality.
We also had a fantastic performance from a group of musicians from Islay High School who put on an impromptu show raising money for various good causes. They brought various fiddles, pipes, whistles, guitars and even danced a hornpipe. Our resident mixologists rattled up a few cocktails to raise some cash and everyone had a great time.
The shop lends itself well to being an informal music venue and we have more to come on Monday 3rd June when the ‘Welcome to Islay’ evenings will continue courtesy of the Islay Natural History Trust. This will feature a number of local musicians including our very own Jessica Fletcher and The Ella Edgar Highland Dancers and and starts at around 6.30. Everyone is welcome.
