Earlier this year, we took delivery of our first consignment of bespoke virgin oak casks from Seguin Moreau. Traditionally, these beautiful vessels have been used by many of the great French Chateaux to mature their fine wines.
The philosophical connection between Bruichladdich and the world’s elite wine-makers is well-known; we also believe terroir matters.
Adam Hannett, our head distiller, had visited the French cooperage back in Spring 2013, to witness at first-hand how these virgin oak casks are made, subsequently describing it as ”a melding of ancient arts and modern technologies”.
Here’s a video from the cooperage, showing the oaks being felled, deep in the Cognac region.
