YouTube In Germany: Some Things Are Beyond Our Control

Our #LaddieMP3 tasting, led by head distiller Adam Hannett last Thursday, received hugely positive feedback for its originality and conversational style. Thanks to all of you who joined.

However, many of our friends in Germany were disappointed to miss out on our YouTube live stream of the event, due to an ongoing legal dispute between the video-sharing platform and German performance rights agency GEMA, which has blocked the live streaming of YouTube videos in Germany. We were just as frustrated not to be able to deliver the tasting on all formats.

It has become a high-level wrangle at a regional and national level in Germany which has been ongoing for more than five years.

While still able to engage directly with the distillery through several other social media platforms, with another video feed available on Periscope and those on Twitter enjoying some great conversation throughout the evening, it meant we could not interact as hoped with many of our valued followers.

That said, we were joined by many German fans, who found some unorthodox ways to watch the tasting. And we always like unorthodox...

Despite the difficulties imposed upon us, we will be working to find a way to keep all our fans involved for the next Micro Provenance tasting.

It might useful to know that the video of the event is now available to watch on Bruichladdich’s YouTube channel, for any of you who would like to enjoy the tasting in your own time - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNa1ez91UnE.
