What if? It is one of our favourite questions at Bruichladdich. A large number of whiskies produced here since we reopened in 2001 have been born from that one little question.

Those two words led to Port Charlotte, our heavily peated single malt expression; those two words led to the creation of the world’s only Islay Dry Gin and most importantly, those two words led to the reopening of Bruichladdich Distillery.

Octomore was born from a “what if” moment; those two small words, late in a dark Islay night at the Port Charlotte Hotel.

What if we were to take our barley, this barley of single and purest provenance, and peat it beyond any other barley ever used in the Scotch whisky industry?

What if we pass it slowly through the most delicate slow single malt distillation we can?

What if we were to make the most heavily peated whisky in the world?

What will result?
