Our Peated Single Malt Whisky

The idea that one distillery in Scotland can only produce one style of whisky is something we are happy to reject.

Given tall, narrow-necked stills that produced spirit of uncompromising purity, lightness and fruit, it was inevitable that questions would begin to surface: How would a heavily peated spirit turn out? What character would a heavily peated whisky have when coaxed gently through one of the slowest and most delicate distillations in the whisky industry?

The result was Port Charlotte, our heavily peated whisky, a single malt with all the resonance of the peat of Islay, but which has brought an elegance to a style of Scotch whisky generally regarded as robust and unforgiving. Here you will find a lightness, a fruitiness, an elegance not usually associated with peaty whisky.

And then, further (always further), late one night in the Port Charlotte Hotel, “what if”, that mantra of Bruichladdich, “what if we created the most heavily peated whisky on earth using our refined floral stills?”

And so Octomore was born, the new cult Islay, the iron fist in the velvet glove, proudly and defiantly the peatiest whisky in the world. We think it will change the way you think about Islay single malts forever.
