The Bruichladdich Distillery is now a private company, once again.
After 10 years of dogged persistence, on 19th December 2000 , the distillery and all it’s maturing of casks - 7000 casks - some dating back to 1964 - were purchased by Mark Reynier and his two Murray McDavid colleagues Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright for £7.5m
An esoteric group of 35 carefully picked private shareholders provided the equity capital with almost half of it coming from Islay connections. The Bank of Scotland provided the bank debt.
This is a genuinely 100% privately financed company, there are no
corporations, cross shareholdings, venture capitalists etc. involved, because
our goal is a long term one, and everyone involved understands this. We all hold
the same belief in Bruichladdich’s future as the premium, hand made,
natural Islay Single Malt. This is a proudly independent and fiercely private Scottish company - incorporated, capitalised, financed and managed in Scotland.
