In 1695 Martin Martin, a Hebridean traveller wrote of an ancient powerful spirit, which translates from the Gaelic as “perilous whisky”. he was told by the natives: “one sip and you live forever; two sips and you go blind; three sips and you expire on the spot”. Humbly, and in the typical Bruichladdich spirit of adventure, we have re-created this legendary, quadruple-distilled blockbuster dram.
What actually comes across is the incredible purity the extra distillation brings, and this powerful spirit's ability to extract flavour from the oak cask.
Tasting Notes
There is no one alive today who has ever tasted quadruple distilled single malt. The four-distillation process means the texture has an incredible lubricity.
Intoxicating. Sweet barley cereal sugar aromas are the first up, supported by floral overtones of primula, iris, mint, Leiden and gorse joined later by Muscat grapes with a twist of lycee. The oak then starts to emerge with hints of hazelnut splashed with bourbon.
A lightness in both the taste and the aromatics. The purity, the essence of the spirit evident from the first sip. Clean, fresh, alive, innocent, pure and untainted by time and opinions. You would never believe its youth in a month of Sundays.
A beguiling silky texture which takes a lot of the heat from the mouth feel. Great length of flavour. A true first-born, debut spirit, a pioneer who has originality and required courage, creativity , imagination and non-conformity to produce.
