An Tigh Seinse, Portnahaven. Crazy name, crazy place - everyone calls it
ÒMaureenÕsÓ after the previous landlady. This old seafront, terraced house has a
delightful, if incredibly snug, tiny bar. Simple, but very well done home
cooking, Aga-cooked, served all day until 8pm. Locally caught Crab and prawns.
Run by the ever friendly Janey and Laura, an essential visit on any Islay tour.

Port Charlotte Hotel, Port Charlotte. The fanciest place to eat on the
island, with London prices to match, and a good wine list. Excellent, better
value bar food takes over in the pub in the early evenings when it becomes more
like another restaurant. 44 (0)1496 850360
Croft Kitchen, Port Charlotte - A relatively plain, bistro-type place,
serving coffees, teas, lunches, high teas and early evening dinner. Simple
cooking including Islay scallops, lamb and beef. A rudimentary wine list. Open
all day and early evening only: breakfasts from 10am, lunch menu from 12 Ð
5.30pm and dinner menu from 5.30 Ð 7.30 (latest). Closed Wednesdays and over
winter. It is one of the few places you can eat outside overlooking the sea. +44

An Taigh-Osda, Bruichladdich - We call it the Bruichladdich Hotel, adjacent
to the distillery. A very good 24 seater restaurant, specialising in fresh local
produce and specifically seafood. Very popular. Tel 01496 850587.
Port Mor, Port Charlotte - It looks like a sports club/camp site which is
essentially what it is, but what a refreshingly open setting in which to eat:
huge windows with uplifting views over Lochindaal, the Atlantic and the playing
fields. Here Francois serves simple bistro-like food with a French take - all
day long - with an exciting specials menu featuring only locally produced
seafood, vegetables and meat. Wonderfully French. Unlicensed, so bring your own
wine.
Debbie's Mini-Market, Bruichladdich - not a restaurant at all, but an
excellent coffee shop, serving home made sandwiches, baps, rolls and cakes all
from the delicatessen counter. Tables outside are ideal for watching the comings
and goings, lapping up the sun and watching the waves.
