The June edition of Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal, an influential US publication, has awarded four Bruichladdichs the maximum five star rating - the “highest recommendation” soubriquet:
- Bruichladdich Black Art 2 1989
- Port Charlotte PC8
- Bruichladdich 2004 Islay Barley
- Port Charlotte PC 7
Four more whiskies were awarded four stars and a "Highly Recommended" classification:
- Bruichladdich Laddie Classic
- Port Charlotte an Turas Mor
- Bruichladdich The Laddie Ten (“a winner”)
- Port Charlotte PC 6
It is intriguing to note that five of these bottlings are only ten years old and less - at six, seven & eight years old.
The three other bottlings are cuvées, Bruichladdich designed, two of them being multi-vintages.
It is a testament to the good quality trickle-distilling, premium quality barley, decent wood and the skilful art of the cellar master.
Yet some say that age matters. Does it?
