The malt whisky reviews of Augustus Hare

Thursday, 13 June 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

We are delighted to feature reviews of two very different Bruichladdich single malts from the journal of Augustus Hare, a menswear company which: "adheres to the traditions of meticulous craftsmanship".  The first is a Sixteen Year Old Laddie aced in Chateau Lafleur from Pomerol.  The second is an interesting assessment of the world's most heavily peated whisky, the Octomore 5.1/169.  The prose, as one would expect, is perfectly poised.

Three Valinch bottlings - The Malt Impostor

Thursday, 30 May 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

A A review of a trio of our Valinch bottlings by The Malt Impostor which is in fact a plurally challenged triumverate comprising John, Stephen and Bill.  The Malt Impostor represents the bloggosphere in full flight, with each post hilariously rivalling the last in its efforts to attach ever more ludicrous olefactory interpretations to Scotland's national drink.  It's very funny, laugh out loud funny in fact, and therefore, as with most good comedy, the sketches are based on more than a grain of truth.

Jewmalt, the Sex Pistols and Dead Muskrat

Tuesday, 28 May 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

We appreciate entertaining writing much as we appreciate good whisky and a scan through the archives of the excellent 'Jewmalt' blog provides plenty.  Written by Joshua 'Yossi' Hatton it was probably Yossi who first drew a parallel between Bruichladdich and the Sex Pistols (in print anyway).

New York Loves Whisky - The Laddie Ten

Thursday, 23 May 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

Kevin Chang writes a review of The Laddie Ten on a relatively new blog called "New York Loves Whisky" dedicated to single malts from around the world. The writing is an eclectic mix of whisky reviews, interviews and impressions of events attended, with particular emphasis on retail outlets, the Big Apple liquor stores that purvey his favourite drink.

Dramstats - Islay Barley 2006

Dramstats Review: Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2006 (Dunlossit Farm)

This is a review from the 'Dramstats' blog, based in beautiful Durham in the north of England.  Danny Williamson is an enthusiast who has reviewed a number of our whiskies.  He first came to appreciate Scotland's world famous contribution to civilization five years ago apparently, while on honeymoon on the west coast.  We can see how that would leave an impression.   Our own notes on this sun-soaked Laddie dram are here: Islay Barley 2006

Local Pride - The Buffalo Whiskey Guild

Tuesday, 21 May 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

One of the great pleasures associated with being a small artisanal producer of, say, Islay single malt Scotch whisky, is how enthusiastically our work is received around the world by an ever-increasing band of interested people.  More and more of you seem to be 'getting' what high quality whisk(e)y is all about, and placing it in its proper context.

All over the world, individuals and groups are coming together to try interesting drinks, comment on them, review them, give them a score, or simply just say their piece.  We are then all able to share their thoughts, dreams, contexts and ideas though social media.  It is fascinating.  It is great fun, and it can be extremely rewarding, both for us as distillers, and hopefully for you as consumers when you are faced with the amazing choices it is possible to encounter in a 21st century liquor store.

Review of Sherry Classic by Denis Routhier

Monday, 13 May 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

The moral of this review from Denis Routhier is - always pick up every piece of litter you see - you never know what it might be.  In this instance Denis found a discarded or lost coupon that could only be redeemed at his local liquor store - so he very sensibly opted for a bottle of Bruichladdich.

Bere Barley 2006 - Whiskydude on Instagram

Tuesday, 30 April 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

Another look at one of our uber-provenance Barley releases from the inimitable @whiskydude over on Instagram.  Enjoy!!

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2006 - Kynagarry Farm, Achaba, Achfad Fields. Unpeated Islay Single Malt - 50% alc/vol. Bottle # 4227 / 7650.  now this is something else, i went into this knowing little to nothing about the "bere" variety of barley, you can read up about it on the internet. the quick facts: it's britain's oldest cereal and it's yield is less than half of that of regular barley varieties. i bought this along with the islay barley, figuring they were in some way siblings. in a way they are, but more as an idea, this guy has been spawned from a completely different seed. i have seen reviews covering both ends of the spectrum, people loving this and people not liking this. well here's my 2 cents....

Islay Barley 2006 Review by Whiskydude

Thursday, 25 April 2013 POSTED BY Carl Reavey IN News

Our Islay Barley 2006 bottling seems to have tickled our friend Whiskydude over on Instagram who wrote this mouth-watering review. We're rather partial to this one ourselves here at the distillery - single farm, single field, single year's vintage and a wonderfully rich and oily dram (though we say so ourselves). Pure Bruichladdich. Thanks whiskydude! Glad you enjoyed it!
