Bonjour Laddiefans! C'est time for another cracking competition.  The Dark Lords of Digital have snaffled a bottle of our latest release, Islay Barley 2006 (Dunlossit) from the clutches of the Laddieshop and it will be sent to the most innovative and talented Laddiefan out there who can present us with something appropriate to the word 'Barley', or anagrams thereof.

So far as we are aware, that limits you to three concepts - 'Barley', 'Barely' and 'Bleary'.  You may wish to illuminate one, two or all three of these lovely words.  Or you may choose to ignore them and send us your very own interpretation.

What are the rules?

The usual rules apply. The judging will be entirely subjective, and probably unfair. We claim that the judges tend to be biased towards entries featuring the world's greatest single malt distillery, but that did not help those entering our last two competitions.  'Nostalgia' was won with a photo of the now defunct Port Ellen distillery, and our 'Black Art' competition was topped by a couple of classy black and white shots entitled 'Nomad' and 'Cubes'.

Will a photo win the 'Bleary, Barely, Barley' competition?  Who knows?  Writers and poets have come close to bagging the big one in the past - could this be their day?  We have had several musical entries that rattled our windows and someone else memorably sent us Ernest Hemingway's cigar (which we smoked).  We have also had cuddly toys and an owl in a hat.

How do I enter?

Please send photos to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Anything else could be posted to our Facebook wall.  Three dimensional 'Objet d'Art', cigars etc. can be sent to “The World’s Greatest Distillery, Bruichladdich, Islay” by Monday 6th August as the competition closes at midnight GMT on that day.

Cheating and bribery are all part of the fun and are generally encouraged.  Entries in French will be warmly received but will not sway our  judges who, after careful consideration, will make an arbitrary and probably unreasonable decision based on the excellence of the submissions. Or maybe they will just pick the winner out of hat. Who knows?
