We are pleased, and just a tad proud, to have been awarded Distiller of the Year in the 2007 Drammie Awards.
The title includes all areas of the whisky industry and not just distilling, but blending and independent bottling too.
The Scotch Blog is the ‘pleasingly irreverent’ US-based, whisky website edited by whisky fan – and laudably independent - Kevin Erskine. This award is particularly satisfying to us, as it is won by votes cast by the public and the trade alike – and not merely bestowed on ‘Muggins’s turn’ or influenced by advertising revenue as most similar awards are.
In an award ceremony last night in New York, we were awarded the title of Pioneer of the Year.
Jim and Andrew were there to collect the award from the Malt Advocate’s editor John Hansell. The title, according to the citation, reflects our enterprising distillation programme, dynamic maturation policy and innovative bottling concepts.
Officially recognised as Progressive Hebridean Distillers. Now that’s nice.

Jim McEwan was honoured with the title ‘Personality of the Year’ by Whisky Magazine – a fitting award with which to celebrate his 40th year in the business and the global ambassadorial role he has taken on for Single Malt Scotch, for Islay Malts in general and specifically for Bruichladdich.
Well done Jim!
The Whisky Icon Awards held on Friday 5th March 2004, voted for by the readers of Whisky Magazine, resulted in Bruichladdich winning two awards: Innovator of the Year and Personality of the Year.
Marcin Miller, Publisher of the magazine explained that the distillery had come out as a clear winner, because the team had embraced the best of traditional Islay and given it a remarkably fresh spin. “The stylish and modern packaging … the emphasis on Islay and the willingness to adapt to the modern world, with the use of the internet for online tastings and education (are) truly impressive."
