Home Up Flora & Fauna Geology The Peat Tour of Islay
| |
Nature
Perhaps its Islay's remoteness, relative
inaccessibility and sparse population. Perhaps it is the mild climate and total
lack of pollution. Islay has many beautiful animals and plants, that
attract visitors from around the world; it's not just the whisky! With a
magnificent varied coastline - both wildly rugged, exposed
shores and soft, sheltered sandy bays - it is a joy to explore. Large
parts of the island are declared Sites of Special Scientific Interest, with rare birds such as the Chough and
Corncrake. Many thanks to Carl Reavey who has kindly taken these photographs. |
