Pioneer of the Year:
Since the new owners started making whisky at this distillery in 2001, they
have experimented with several different peating levels (some through the
roof!), utilized double, triple, and even quadruple distillation, are
experimenting with several different varieties of barley, and they are
maturing their whisky in just about every type of wine and spirit cask known
to exist. And this is only what they¹re telling us!
They¹re also a champion of the cause to use only Scottish ingredients and to
do as much as they can for Islay and its people. They pioneered the onsite
Whisky Academy concept. And, as if all this wasn't enough, they¹re now
working on starting up a second distillery on Islay in Port Charlotte.
If you can think of anything that these guys haven¹t tried yet, tell them.
They¹ll probably do it. Our Pioneer of the Year award goes to: Bruichladdich
Distillery.
