Simon became interested in the wine world after
enjoying a glass with Monsieur Baumard of his Quart de Chaume 1947 while touring
France after leaving school. And it has been downhill ever since. Destined to be
a Quantity Surveyor or some such noble profession, he ended up with out much
persuasion, as a wine and spirit merchant instead.
Having bottled, labelled, and despatched wine for
J.B. Reynier, where he met his wife Isabel whose family live in the Borders of
Scotland, he went on to work with Les Amis du Vin in Covent Garden. He then
worked for the brewers and wine merchants Eldridge Pope selling to restaurants
and breweries around the country before joining Mark again in 1987. He has
covered every aspect of the premium drinks industry.
Simon has a fantastic collection of single
malt whiskies at his home, which he insists is for quality control purposes
only, but I doubt it. A good chef, a serious rugby player, and a general all
round (in every sense) bon viveur.
Chrissie Angus
Born and brought up on the Rhinns
of Islay. Worked as a Post Office Assistant for 23 years along with being a
Area Field Officer with the SAYFC before joining the team at Bruichladdich.
She has worked within office of the distillery until 1st January when she moved
to the bottling team.
Jonathan Carmichael
Jonathan belongs to Oban. He is
the youngest of two brothers. He served his time as a Joiner in Oban. His
hobbies are football, darts and golfing. It was during a football tournament to
Islay that he met his wife Fiona. She is an Ileach and works as a Nurse. They
have two children, Hannah and
John. Jonathan worked with Bruichladdich Distillery as a Joiner - and an excellent one at that. He worked within the
distilling process until he moved over to the new bottling
hall.
Dougal MacIntyre
Dougie, as he is known as, has three younger sisters.
His parents belonged to Perthshire and came to Islay in the 1960's to manage a
farm. Dougie and his three sisters were born on Islay and educated at the
local schools. Dougie went on to further his education at Oban High School
in Argyll and studied Geology at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. His
first employment was at Glasgow University as a Geology Technician before trying
his hand at pottery making and furniture making/restoring. Dougie's claim
to fame is that his is the son of Mairie MacIntyre the first Editor of our local
newspaper the Ileach that was started in the 1970's.
Dougie's hobbies are DIY and hill walking. He
lives with his partner, Sandra, and they have a little girl called Catriona.
Tina MacKinnon
Tina was born in Glasgow, but has spent all her life
in Islay. She grew up with her mother in Burnside, Bruichladdich. She has two
children, 10 year old Ruaraidh and 8 year old Meghan. She lives with her
partner, 'PG' who is originally from Port Ellen, as well as one dog 'Maggie' and
one cat 'Jessie'. Tina spends her spare time doing D.I.Y. projects around the
house and 'dabbling in a little painting'. She definitely has Bruichladdich in
her blood as her brother, Peter McDermid, works at the distillery as Mashman and
her Mothers partner, Ian Alan, was Bruichladdich Distillery Manager for over 20
years.
